What is Vestibular Therapy?
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy is an exercise-based treatment available at Boost Physiotherapy. It’s designed by our highly trained vestibular physiotherapists, and it helps restore or improve balance in our patients to reduce any dizziness or vestibular system problems.
Dizziness can be feelings of spinning, floating, passing out, unsteadiness, wooziness, weird moving sensations, a swimming feeling in the head, swaying, whirling (also called vertigo), or tilting. If you’ve been having these sensations or feelings when you’re standing, lying down, or even getting up or changing your position, it could be described as dizziness.
The symptoms of dizziness can last for seconds, minutes, or even hours. Ten million patients every year visit a doctor to get their dizziness checked out. It is common in those who are 75 or above, but it can happen to anyone regardless of their age.
While dizziness can occur to many things, including medications, neck dysfunction, inner ear canal disorders, or a heart or brain problem, it’s generally not a serious problem. You can get it checked out at our Edmonton clinic.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Edmonton South FAQs
Yes, vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is highly effective for many patients experiencing dizziness, vertigo, and balance issues. It can often prevent the need for surgical intervention and may be the sole treatment required for certain conditions. VRT works by retraining your brain to process balance signals more accurately, leading to significant improvements in symptoms and overall quality of life. By addressing the root causes of vestibular disorders, VRT helps patients regain stability, reduce falls, and enhance daily functioning, making it a vital component of comprehensive care for balance-related issues.
The duration of vestibular rehab therapy varies based on individual needs, but typically, a course of treatment lasts 6 to 8 weeks. Patients usually attend 1 or 2 sessions per week. The exact length of therapy depends on several factors, including the specific diagnosis, severity of symptoms, and individual progress. Our therapists continually assess and adjust treatment plans to ensure optimal outcomes. Some patients may experience significant improvements in a shorter time, while others might require extended therapy to achieve their goals. Consistent attendance and adherence to prescribed exercises are crucial for the best results.
During your first session, our therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your symptoms and medical history. This evaluation includes tests for balance, gait, visual stability, and neck mobility, among other factors. Based on these findings, the therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. You will also receive initial exercises and guidance on how to manage symptoms between sessions. The goal of the first session is to establish a baseline, identify key issues, and set the stage for effective, targeted treatment in subsequent visits.
