Almost all of us will experience some sort of lower back pain at some point in our lives. Most of the time the pain will resolve within a few weeks with proper management and our expert physiotherapists can help to guide you so you can be pain free again!
Your back pain might be triggered by any number of things. Perhaps you started a new activity or took a long road trip. Maybe you tweaked your back when you lifted your toddler or decided to hit the gym again like you used to 10 years ago. Sometimes your back pain might just pop up with no rhyme or reason. But fear not! Our South Edmonton and Stony Plain physiotherapists can get you back on track! If you are having back pain, book in today.
Your lower back (lumbar spine) is made up of five very strong vertebrae, with a strong disc that sits in between each bone. Attached to the bones and discs are many layers of different muscles ligaments and tendons. All of these structures work together and give your back strength and flexibility, allowing your back to be the strongest part of your body.
If you have an acute flare up of lower back pain, it is often caused by overstressing the tissues in your lower back, causing lower back pain. Fortunately, physiotherapy is very effective at easing lower back pain and you will also learn strategies to keep your lower back pain from returning!
The typical healing time for the muscles and ligaments in your back is around 4-6 weeks. Our Edmonton physiotherapists will use hands-on techniques to relieve your back pain during your physio treatment and guide you through rehab exercises for more long term relief. Oftentimes when you are experiencing lower back pain, you tend to stiffen up quickly and without the proper physio treatments and exercise you may become stiffer or weaker.
Our spines have evolved to do best with certain positions, so try to have support for your lower back when sitting for longer periods of time. Try to change positions or activities every 20 minutes to prevent your joints from becoming too stiff in one position.
At Boost Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists are ready to assist you with any injury you may have!
