GLA:D Hip Knee Program Edmonton South FAQs

The education classes in the GLA:D Program provide participants with valuable insights into osteoarthritis, covering topics such as the nature of the condition, risk factors, and self-management strategies. These sessions empower participants with knowledge about how exercise can alleviate symptoms, current treatment options, and coping mechanisms for day-to-day challenges. Understanding these aspects helps participants make informed decisions about their health, fosters a proactive approach to managing osteoarthritis, and enhances the effectiveness of the physical exercises they perform during the program.

Yes, the GLA:D Program can help slow the progression of osteoarthritis. By engaging in regular, targeted exercises and implementing the self-management strategies learned in the education classes, participants can reduce the strain on their joints and improve overall joint function. This proactive approach not only alleviates current symptoms but also helps maintain joint health, potentially delaying the progression of osteoarthritis. Staying active and informed are key components in managing osteoarthritis effectively, and the GLA:D Program provides the tools to achieve this.

The GLA:D Program is designed to be adaptable, making it suitable for individuals with varying degrees of osteoarthritis, including those with severe cases. The exercises are tailored to meet individual capabilities and can be adjusted as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness. While participants with severe osteoarthritis may require more modifications, the program’s structured approach can still offer significant benefits in terms of pain relief, improved mobility, and overall quality of life. It’s always advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to determine if the program is appropriate for your specific condition.
